New Speed Restrictions on Snowy Mountains Highway

80kph Tumut to Talbingo

Transport for NSW has advised that they have implemented 80kph speed restrictions on the Snowy Mountains Highway between Tumut and Talbingo for urgent road safety reasons.

Snowy Valleys Council Interim General Manager Hamish McNulty says he understands the frustration of locals around the change, and the lack of advice to the community.

“While council supports the need to ensure the safety of road users, it is also important that our communities are advised of any changes in a timely manner,” Mr McNulty said.

“We have been in contact with TfNSW and have received assurances that Council will be advised in advance of any further changes to speed limits across the region, so that we are able to share that information with residents.”

Transport for NSW Traffic Alert - 2 SEPTEMBER 2022

Changed traffic conditions on Snowy Mountains Highway between Tumut and Talbingo

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions from this week on the Snowy Mountains Highway due to damaged road surface in sections between Tumut and Talbingo.

A reduced speed limit of 80 km/h has been introduced for about 30-kilometres of the highway, from the southern side of Tumut to the Talbingo turn-off, to improve safety for transport customers.

It will remain in place until work is carried out to repair sections of the road surface.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time. We will provide updates on future work and thank the community for their recent feedback on the road condition in this area.
