Local businesses across the Snowy Valleys recently took part in a project which saw them engaging in a free professional photo shoot to build a portfolio of images for promotional use.

Snowy Valleys Council recently finished the first round of its business photography project which saw 35 participating business owners each receive 15 free professional photographs to help them promote their business.

The project was supported by funding provided through the Bushfire Community Resilience and Economic Recovery Fund.

Council’s Executive Director Community and Corporate Paul Holton said, “This project is a continuation of Council’s commitment to supporting business and development across the region.

“We recognise the value of quality imagery and assisting businesses to compete in a competitive online marketplace,” he said.

Council engaged professional local photographer Matt Beaver to carry out the photo shoots, which took place over several months.

Mr Holton said participating businesses were from a range of industries, including hospitality, agriculture, viticulture, and service providers including real estate and banks.

“The photos will support businesses with promotion and marketing and are also a great way of improving exposure online and through social media,” he said.

One of the businesses that took part in the project was the Tumut River Brewing Co. and staff have already started using their new professional photos on various social media channels.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of the project; the quality of the photos is outstanding, and we have already started to use some of the content,” said Venue and Sales Manager Michael Cichocki.

“By using the photos, we are continuing to improve our social media presence. We will also use the photos to improve other marketing materials including printed pamphlets/brochures.

“It was a great opportunity to improve our marketing asset collateral while promoting the business and the region; the fact that it was sponsored by the council was obviously a big plus,” he said.

Owners of J & J Corbett Family Trust at Yaven Creek, John and Jenn Corbett also got on board with the project and are hopeful that the photos will help to generate more business for their Yaven Performance Horse stud.

“We had a great time working with all involved in the photography project,” Ms Corbett said.

“The photos that were taken of our business will be shown to future clients and be used on our social media. It will show off to the equine world our sort-after genetics we have here in the Snowy Valleys area.

“We are hoping this will bring potential buyers to our area and cement future relationships for further sales.”

Mount Tumbarumba Vineyard’s Elvie Yates was pleased to be able to collaborate with Snowy Valleys Council on the project.

“I did a social media workshop also organised through the Snowy Valleys Council and this motivated me to think about how to make the content of our website and social media more striking,” Ms Yates said.

"When council offered a photo shoot, this seemed like a great opportunity to get some really interesting photos that would be good for promoting our region and the Tumbarumba wine industry.

“I also liked the idea that the photos would be shared with council and would be used to promote the region.

“It was also an opportunity for us to think about the story we wanted our photos to tell, and this aspect was a lot of fun. Overall, the experience was very much a win-win situation for all involved.”

Council will hold another round of business photography sessions later in the year for new businesses and established businesses who were unable to take part in the first round, with expressions of interest being sought from July 2021.
