Canberra experienced some of the best of the Snowy Valleys region as part of The Riverina Weekender promotion held at the recent CCIA Caravan, Camping and Lifestyle Expo.

Snowy Valleys Council joined with Destination Riverina Murray, Wagga City Council, Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council, the Canola Trail and Wagga Big 4 Caravan Park to promote a weekend escape from Canberra in the Riverina, with excellent results.

Over 18,400 people attended the event over three days, with more than 1,000 flyers distributed, highlighting things to do in the Riverina (including the Snowy Valleys) within a 2.5 hour drive from Canberra.

Snowy Valleys Council Acting Director Phil Stone said, “Collaborating with other local councils and organisations is an important part of the on-going marketing of the Snowy Valleys as a visitor destination.

“The Snowy Valleys saw excellent results from the ‘Go With the Flow’ Riverina campaign earlier this year, and we plan to build on this success, with a focus on Canberra as a key visitor target market.

“The Riverina’s focus on food, wine and nature-based experiences fits with the Snowy Valleys destination brand, and allows the Snowy Valleys to leverage the work that is being done to promote the broader region,” Mr Stone explained.

Patrons were excited by the possibilities of a weekend in the Riverina, with many indicating that they were unaware of the wonders that were right at their doorstep.

A range of activities kept visitors entertained during the show. Fast Ed, of Better Homes and Gardens, incorporated a range of local produce in his popular cooking demonstrations, including Batlow pink lady apples courtesy of Wilgro Orchards.

Great prizes were also on offer to visitors, including a stay at Yarrangobilly Caves House, only an hour from Tumut, courtesy of NSW National Parks & Wildlife.

Richie Robinson, General Manager of Destination Riverina Murray said, “The CCIA Caravan, Camping and Lifestyle Expo in Canberra is a key event for us to showcase the Riverina Murrray region, given Canberra is a key source market but also because the patrons are a captive audience who are actively seeking travel information for their next adventure.

“Due to our close proximity to Canberra and our appealing range of food, beverage and nature based experience, this makes the Riverina Murray region an attractive destination to visit”.
